Camp L.G Barnes will be hosting an open house event this Saturday, June 25th at their location near Bentley. The camp has recently privatized and is looking forward to expanding into the community to provide camp experiences for people and families of all sorts.

“Camp L.G Barnes is a year-round camp for adults with disabilities open to everyone in the province. We have found that we’ve been a part of Michener Center for so many years, we've branched out on our own independently we’re just looking at engaging the community, engaging the province, and offering people an opportunity to come and to enjoy the camp,” explained Dave Bayduza, Executive Director of Camp L.G Barnes.

The Camp can host up to 40 people at a time and is well equiped to handle people with different needs and abilities.

“We're excited to welcome people in our community to come and see, and to see and perhaps be engaged in Camp L.G Barnes. We are having an open house that consists of getting people an opportunity to enjoy a campfire, enjoy our two story tree-fort with an elevator, to enjoy our Wally Wagon rides around the community and to hopefully enjoy the water, weather permitting and just to welcome you to our facility,” said Bayduza.

Provincial funding to the camp was cut in 2021 and now they are working hard to get the word out about Camp L.G Barnes. Previously, the camp was restricted to only hosting individuals who had developmental disabilities.

“We are available to the community even if you don't have individuals, or know of individuals, and support individuals with disabilities. We have a camp that's provides a fun opportunity for people. We have a petting zoo with 14 animals, we have water activities, and just a wide range of crafts and music and just a fun atmosphere,” explained Bayduza.
