The Blackfalds Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is once again running their Winter Coat Program. The program is designed to provide eligible kids in Blackfalds with new winter coats. Eligible families must apply by September 30th. The Winter Coat Program is supported by local partners and residents.
Coming up on September 28th will be an event, called The Winter Warmth Fall Fundraiser. Jan Pocock, The Community Engagement Programmer for Blackfalds FCSS talks about the evening.
"It's a super fun night where locals get together to support a local organization, so that we can ensure that all the children will be warm this Winter. The highlight of the event is a live auction. We auction off these amazing desserts, and this year we have added some art pieces by local artisans."
As far as the need in Blackfalds for a Winter Coat Program, Pocock talks about how many families used the service.
"We did 133 kids last year, and we expect it to be around that same number again this year. We just want to make sure that everyone has a decent well-fitting coat."
