Blackfalds Mayor Richard Poole has announced that he will not be running in the 2021 Municipal Election.

“After twenty-three years it is the right time for me to look for new experiences and opportunities and I have, therefore, in consultation with my wonderful wife Mary, made the decision that I will not be running in the 2021 Municipal election,” said Blackfalds Mayor, Richard Poole in a statement.

Poole who has been working with Town Council since 1995, says the pandemic has created several challenges for those on Town Council.

“It has been by far the hardest year I have ever experienced.  Despite this, I am proud that your Council made decisions that not only assisted the community during a difficult time but will encourage new development and create a sense of optimism in our community in the upcoming years.  A new library, a new ice arena, new sports opportunities, and in the future a new high school will all help our community move forward on another wave of success,” said Poole.

In order to avoid any delays, Poole says any major celebrations of the new Eagle Builder’s Centre will be postponed until the spring.

“Council and administration will be postponing any major opening celebrations until Springtime to ensure that no delay occurs due to this celebration, however, residents can expect a soft opening with a ribbon-cutting to occur.  Like you, I can hardly wait to see the Eagle Centre arenas and Blackfalds Servus Library bring new and exciting experiences to our Town,” said Poole.

Other projects currently in progress include:

  • The Gregg Street extension which is expected to be completed by October as long as the weather cooperates.
  • Leung road constriction which will provide the infrastructure for Wolf Creek School Division’s new High School.

Poole noted that he has had several great experiences working with several councils over the years and is very proud of the work he has accomplished with Blackfalds Town Council.

“I believe strongly that our community is also home to the best Municipal staff in Alberta and it has been my privilege to have worked alongside you. Finally, a huge thank you to the citizens of Blackfalds for their dedication to making our community the best in Alberta.  It has truly been an honour to serve this community,” said Poole in his statement.
