BGC (formerly known as Boys and Girls Club) will be kicking off programming in Lacombe for the first time this year with Wolf Creek Public School Division.

“We run in Ponoka and Rimbey currently, and we will now be running in Lacombe as well. We will be running out of the Upper Elementary School. We have space there and so all school children from all schools are welcome to come and to attend the After School Program and the School's Out Day Program,” said Beth Reitz, Executive Director of BGC Wolf Creek.

The After School Program runs from 3:00PM to 5:30PM and the School’s Out Program runs on professional development days from 8:30AM to 5:30PM. The programs are eligible for kids in Kindergarten to Grade 6. It is a licensed child care program meaning that parents can access government subsidy to pay for the fees. The After School Program costs $15 a day and the School’s Out Program will cost $35-$45 depending on the day’s activities.

The School’s Out Program may mean kids are heading out on field trips or doing other activities at the school.

“They’re doing all kinds of fun activities. It's based on just being creative, having fun, enjoying time with friends, peers, and kids your own age. We have all kinds of games, activities, and all kinds of play and materials that they will use. Basically, it's just a fun way to spend your time after school where you can still be playing with your friends in a really safe environment,” said Reitz.

BGC has previously been in Ponoka for 20 years and in Rimbey for the last eight years. Reitz says they would love to expand the program to include teens and BGC is also considering offering programming in the Blackfalds area as well in the future.

Families are currently encouraged to register if they may be interested in the program. However, they can sign up for the program at any point during the school year. For more information you can call 403-704-4216 or check out the Wolf Creek BGC social media pages.
