From Ponoka RCMP Over the last month Ponoka RCMP utilized a “Bait Vehicle” within the Town of Ponoka.

On Feb, 26, 2020 the bait vehicle was placed on the east side of Ponoka and within six hours it was stolen. After a short distance the vehicle became stuck in the ditch and was left abandoned. A suspect was later identified and arrested on March 6, 2020.

Guy Roasting (22) of Pigeon Lake was charged with:

·         Theft of truck

·         Mischief over $5000

·         Fail to comply with release order condition (x4)

·         Drive while prohibited

He was released after a judicial hearing and will be appearing in Ponoka Provincial Court on March 19, 2020.

The Ponoka RCMP are warning would be criminals that if you steal a vehicle, or enter it to steal items, it may be a “Bait Vehicle” and you will be caught.

In conjunction with the RCMP Auto Theft Unit, an initiative to use a “Bait Vehicle” will continue to be utilized at various times and places in Ponoka. Targeting people who steal vehicles or who attempt to steal from vehicles, is just one component of the ongoing crime reduction strategies in the Town of Ponoka, and across the province of Alberta.
