The Government of Alberta is moving forward with new highway rest areas. Interested parties may now submit proposals to bring commercial safety rest areas closer to construction.

“Alberta’s highways connect businesses and travellers with trade and leisure opportunities.  Developing new rest areas will enhance convenience and safety for the businesses and tourists who travel Alberta’s highways,” said Prasad Panda, Minister of Transportation.

Interested parties have until late December to submit a proposal through a negotiated request for proposals process. Contracts are expected to be awarded in late 2023, with construction starting in 2024.

Costs associated with the commercial developments are expected to be paid by the private sector and recovered through business revenue.
