Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) is being congratulated for its continued efforts to live the legacy of Terry Fox, through the Terry Fox Run.

The Terry Fox Foundation expressed its gratitude for the outstanding effort and commitment displayed by the schools in WCPS in raising funds for cancer research. In particular, Ponoka Elementary School stood out with their exceptional fundraising efforts of $11,619.50.

The Terry Fox Foundation was impressed by the commitment of Wolf Creek Public Schools, with 18 schools from the district participating and raising a total of $54,340.17. It’s something the entire division is also proud of.

"We are incredibly proud of the commitment and passion displayed by our students and staff in raising funds for the Terry Fox School Run,” said Tim De Ruyck, WCPS superintendent. “Their efforts truly demonstrate the power of our community coming together to make a difference. We are grateful for the participation of families and community members who joined us in this important cause. It is a testament to our shared values of empathy, perseverance, and the importance of giving back."

In a letter to the school division, the Foundation said that Terry Fox, an iconic Canadian hero, asked for only $1 from every Canadian in 1980 to help find a cure for cancer. However, he went far beyond that, demonstrating perseverance, empathy, courage, and never giving up - values that remain relevant today. The lessons he taught are especially important in schools, and it is an honor that educators use Terry as a means of teaching.
