Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay stopped in at Canadian Western Agribition last Friday.

The Minister toured the grounds at the new International Trade Centre before announcing the Government's Federal Priorities for the Canadian Agricultural Partnership.

The Minister talked about some of the new initiatives and priorities in the $1 billion Federal investment in the new Canadian Agricultural Partnership.

"What's new in it, is the environmental area, the first nation's area," he said. "Of course with these, it's federal funding only. There making sure that we are promoting internationally, and I have just come back from doing that in China. There are many things like the breeds are promoted, like genetically, to make sure, that we can sell our products, that's, in fact, what it's all about."

MacAulay says CAP’s federal initiatives were developed based on extensive consultations with producers, processors, indigenous communities, women and youth.

"What we want to do is make sure that aboriginals are more involved in agriculture, and that woman are more involved in agriculture," he said. "Women are already involved, but we have to make sure that there are more women involved."

He notes this program along with the Federal-Provincial Program is $3 billion over five years.

Federal program details and application forms will be available in early 2018.
