The Lacombe Generals started off their two-game weekend series against the Stony Plain Eagles with a victory on Friday night in chinook league action.

The first place Generals beat the Eagles six to one inside the Gary Mo Sportsplex in a lopsided affair.

Forward Jesse Todd scored three goals for the hatrick, something head coach Curtis Austring said happens with good players.

"He's an excellent player. He has good body position, he knows how to create space for himself, he's a good passer and he has a great shot. He's just one of those players that's special."

It was a heated battle of the leagues top two teams.

Austring said with the regular season coming to end, teams are starting to battle much harder.

"Every team is trying to jostle for position and I mean points are points. But again you just want to get your game ready for playoffs. I thought our guys came ready to play and Fridays are sometimes tough to play."

The Gens are now head up to Stony for the second half of this weekends series tomorrow night at 7:30.
