Artwork from the Encore Art Show and Sale paint-off is now on display at the Lacombe Memorial Centre (LMC).

During the art show, artists volunteered to do live painting, creating pieces in one hour, that are featured in an online silent auction, to raise funds in support of the Lacombe Arts Endowment Fund.

This year, four pieces were made during the paint-off, and another six were donated for the silent auction.

Maureen Mackenzie, Arts and Culture, and Cemetery Coordinator, said the paint-off is an integral part of the art show.

“People are interested in watching the artist paint, which is always fun because each artist has a different process that they follow,” Mackenzie said. “People always love it.”

Each year, funds from the paint-off are used to support the Student Art Awards and Art Endowment grants.

This year, $1,600 was distributed for the Student Art Awards, and about $10,500 in grants for continuing education in the arts.

“We're always open to receiving donations to the local arts and the endowment fund,” Mackenzie said. “Our goal is to have $1,000,000 in funds so that we can grant out about $35,000 in grants every year.”

The artwork will be on display at the LMC until May 10.
